My Blogs
Over the past two and a half weeks, I have been working on my project. My progress has been slow, but I have really enjoyed working with the paints and colors so far. I have my first painting done. It is of my dog Luna. This painting seemed to be really easy. The shadows and colors worked and looked alot like my reference photo. The process was pretty fast and I got it done a day before my time I gave to myself for it. Unfortunately, I haven't had the same luck with my second painting. I’ve gone over my time that I was supposed to spend on this painting. I have been finding this painting particularly hard in comparison to my first painting. With constantly comparing the colors of my second painting with the first, it has been making me question the colors to show the lighting. The first painting is Luna and the second I’m working on is her sister Malibu. So with them being sisters, they look very similar. Malibu has a darker more red fur color while lunas fur is lighter with more black in her face. I've been trying to keep this in mind while I’m painting malibu, to make sure the fur color is as close as possible. This has been proving difficult as my reference photo for luna is in darker lighting from my light fixture in my house and the reference photo for Malibu is in direct sunlight. It has been difficult to keep the proper fur color while matching the proper lighting. So far I’ve fixed this issue by defining the shadows more and slightly darkening her over all fur color. I’m almost done my second painting and have my third all ready to start painting with my drawn outline on the canvas. Over easter break, I hope to finish my second painting and at least get the background done for my third painting. While the process is tedious and difficult, I have found this project relaxing and rewarding. It is giving me the hope and inspiration I need to keep painting and continue to break out of my shell.
